A Message from The Canton Harbor Administration Concerning Safety and Security

February 22, 2018

Dear Canton Harbor High School Family,

In light of the of current climate in Stark County, I wanted to take this time to let our community know that your child’s safety is our number one concern. I am sure many of you are aware that there has been a very unfortunate incident that occurred at one of the local middle schools, and countless threats of violence made against schools across the county.

In our efforts to be proactive, our administration has researched these threats to ensure that Canton Harbor had not been identified specifically. The Canton Police Department has informed our administration that the person making and posting many of the threats that have been circulating during the past week has been caught and arrested.

In this current climate, it is our responsibility as parents, teachers, mentors, and school leaders to discuss with our students the seriousness of making such threats. It is also our responsibility to continue to teach our children about respect, compassion, and integrity. It is just as important to discuss with your child that if anyone HEARS something or SEES something perceived as a dangerous threat, they MUST SAY something to either emergency or school officials immediately.

To report any immediate threats of violence, or report an emergent situation call 9-1-1. The Canton Police Department can also be contacted at 330-649-5800. Additionally, the Canton Police Department has an anonymous tip application on their website, https://cantonohio.gov/police, where information can be directly sent to the Canton Police Department.

Lastly, in our efforts to continue to be proactive, Canton Harbor is looking to create a Safety and Security Taskforce consisting of students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and local emergency officials. If you have any interest in participating on the Safety and Security Taskforce please feel free to contact me at 330-452-8414.

Sincerely,

Steven A. Nichols
